We left the room confidently.
“My goodness, you girls look stunning!” my mother exclaimed at the bottom of the stairs. I flipped my hair, swaying my hips as we descended.
“Mom,” I said, kissing her cheek. Her eyes were filled with joy. She was happy to see me coming out of my shell. Amelia sat at the dining table, chewing on a sandwich.
“Thank you, ma’am, but we’ll be late for school,” Stella said, pulling me away. Clara chuckled, waving at my mother as we headed out the door.
“Wait for me,” Amelia yelled, gulping water and throwing her bag over her shoulder.
I noticed we attracted a lot of attention at school. I wondered if it was because of what happened at Liana’s party or because of our new looks.
Some students stopped to stare. I heard whispers everywhere. Talia picked up words like “Leon’s mate” and “rejected” several times.
I also heard some guys’ crude comments. “Damn, didn’t know Aria was this hot. I wouldn’t mind doing her,” followed by laughter.
Some girls scoffed, whispering to each other. “Gosh, who gets rejected by their own mate?”
“How embarrassing. I’d kill myself if I were her.”
Oops.
I took a deep breath, lifting my head high. I smiled and swayed my hips. Stella gave me a “well done” wink.
I spotted Leon’s wavy hair in the distance. He hadn’t noticed me yet. Clara tightened her grip on my arm. Leon was chatting with Damien and Ethan, leaning against the lockers.
At least he wasn’t with Liana.
Talia perked up, becoming restless as we got closer. We had to pass them to get to class.
I think she couldn’t decide if she wanted him or was furious with him. His delicious scent still affected me, even though I was determined not to feel anything for him. The mate pull was still strong.
Damien’s eyes landed on me, and I gave him a small smile, making his eyes darken with lust.
I saw Ethan staring too, and I smirked at him.
Leon sniffed the air and looked around. His eyes widened when they landed on me. I let my smile drop, my eyes turning cold, and looked away.
Stella whispered, “Phase one is a success. Moving on to phase two.”
“Did you see how he was staring at you?” Stella squealed as we entered the classroom. Clara had gone to her literature class.
Before I could answer, the door slammed open, and Leon walked in, glaring at me. Goodness, he was still so handsome.
Stella sat away from me. I took my seat, getting my books from my backpack. I tried to ignore his scent and smiled at Stella.
Talia was going crazy again, and I tried to numb her feelings.
He slid into the seat behind me, still staring. I pretended not to notice and tossed my hair to the other side, revealing more of my neck. I knew what I was doing. I was showing him the spot where mates mark each other.
A low growl reached my ears.
“This should be interesting,” Stella smirked.
“Hey,” I said sultrily to Damien, who walked in after Leon.
“Hello, beautiful,” Damien smirked, giving me that slow smile that melted girls’ hearts. I batted my eyelashes, and his eyes traveled to my neck. Damien was unmated.
A loud growl interrupted Damien. He quickly composed himself and sat in front of Leon.
I licked my lips and turned to see Leon staring at me, his jaw clenched, eyes dark.
Even now, he was so hot I wanted to kiss his neck.
I shook my head, scolding Talia.
The teacher walked in and started talking. I wrote a note to Stella. She read it and tried to pass it back when the paper was suddenly snatched from her fingers. It was Leon.
He read the note, crumpled it, and threw it against the wall.
Then he stormed out of the class, slamming the door. The whole class and the teacher were stunned.
In the note, I’d written, “Damien is so hot. He’ll be the perfect boyfriend!”
And she’d replied, “Yes, honey. I totally approve! Do him!!”
